The First Five Jobs to Give Your AI Teammate

Start with clear, repeatable work that produces a result you can easily review.

The hardest part of using AI at work is rarely finding something it could do. It is choosing the first job that will actually make your day easier.

A good starting point has three qualities: it happens often, follows a recognizable pattern, and has a result someone can check. You do not need to redesign your company to find one.

Five useful places to start

1. Prepare tomorrow’s schedule. Gather the day’s meetings, identify missing agendas, and assemble relevant notes. Instead of discovering a problem five minutes before a call, you see it in advance.

2. Sort incoming requests. Review a shared inbox or support queue, separate routine questions from urgent ones, and draft suggested replies for the team to approve.

3. Follow up after meetings. Convert decisions into owners, deadlines, and draft messages. A productive meeting should not create another hour of administrative work.

4. Refresh a weekly report. Bring sales, marketing, or operational data into one consistent format. Highlight changes instead of presenting a wall of numbers.

5. Find stalled work. Check open opportunities, pending invoices, or overdue approvals, then prepare a concise list of what needs attention next.

Give a good brief, not a perfect prompt

You do not need elaborate instructions. You do need a clear expectation.

Try: “Every Friday, prepare a one-page summary of open client issues. Group them by urgency, include the owner, and flag anything waiting more than three days. Send me a draft before posting it.”

That description specifies the source of value: cadence, format, exceptions, and review.

Prove one workflow before adding ten

For the first few runs, check whether the information is correct, the output is useful, and the time saved exceeds the review time. Fix gaps in the instructions before expanding.

Miley can work across connected apps and communicate through Slack, Teams, WhatsApp, text, email, or phone. That makes it possible to hand off a job without changing how your team already communicates.

The quickest path to a useful AI teammate is not an ambitious transformation plan. It is one recurring task that stops landing back on your desk.
